Repair/Replace Garbage Disposal
IF NOT WORKING:
CHECK POWER TO UNIT- VIA SWITCH ON WALL OR PLUG IN.
IF HARD WIRED, CHECK BREAKER TO SEE IF ITS TRIPPED.
IF POWER IS VERIFIED TO UNIT, CHECK MOTOR OPERATION WITH ALLEN KEY AND RED RESET BUTTON. VERIFY RESET IS NOT TRIPPED ON BOTTOM OF DISPOSAL.
IF MOTOR IS JAMMED, USE PROVIDED DISPOSAL WRENCH OR ALLEN KEY TO MANUALLY TURN MOTOR. REST WILL TYPICALLY BE TRIPPED IF YOU ARE DOING THIS.
IF #4 WORKS BUT STILL NO POWER, VERIFY 120V IS PRESENT AT WIRE NUT CONNECTION TO DISPOSAL OR OUTLET IN WALL.
IF POWER IS PRESENT AND MOTOR IS FREE BUT UNIT WILL NOT ENGAGE, REPLACE UNIT, DISPOSAL IS BURNT OUT.
IF REPLACING:
IF HARD WIRED, TURN OFF BREAKER TO UNIT AT PANEL. AND/OR ENSURE SWITCH IS OFF TO UNIT.
VERIFY WITH VOLT METER 120V IS NOT PRESENT.
UNPLUG UNIT
DISCONNECT TUBULAR WASTE FROM DISPOSAL BOOT
TWIST OFF OLD DISPOSAL
UN-BOX OLD DISPOSAL AND ENSURE KNOCK OUT PLUG IS REMOVED IF DISHWASHER DRAIN IS DRAINING INTO DISPOSAL.
IF REPLACING THE COLLAR, USE 100% SILICONE TO SEAL THE COLLAR TO THE SINK.ATTACH SNAP RING TO COLLAR, ONCE COLLAR IS ATTACHED, SECURE SCREWS ON BOTTOM SIDE TO SECURE COLLAR TO SINK. SECURE NEW DISPOSAL TO COLLAR - USING CHANNEL LOCKS TO COMPRESS COLLAR EARS FOR FINAL CONNECTION AS TO NOT SPIN THE COLLAR ONCE IN PLACE.
RECONNECT TUBULAR WASTE TO DISPOSAL
RECONNECT ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS AND TURN ON BREAKER IF NECESSARY.
FLOOD TEST DISPOSAL COMPARTMENT WITH HOT WATER TO ENSURE COMPRESSION JOINTS UNDERNEATH DON'T LEAK. RUN DISPOSAL WHILE FLOOD TESTING THE COMPARTMENT WITH HOT WATER FOR MAXIMUM FLOW WHILE DRAINING.
